Ideas for a Short Story

Family on vacation finds themselves against a zombie onslaught. Unprepared and unequipped, one person must make the ultimate sacrifice for the others to escape. More drama than horror - character-driven.

Conversation from one depressed loner to another. One is a recently-off-the-clock barista and the other drifts through to buy coffee.

One friend confronts another about his alcohol abuse. Intense argument that neither is prepared to handle adequately follows.

Love story revolving around the different relationships two people have before realizing that their best match is each other. They start out as friends, and remain that way for most of the piece, but at the end they discover their mutual attraction.

  1. Hi Luke! Great ideas. My favorite idea is actually your first one. I do not usually like reading drama or horror, but this really sounds interesting. I think that you could make a great story of of it, especially if you focus on the self-sacrifice of one member of the family. I would like to see how different people in the family react in such an intense situation, as one of them must sacrifice himself for the greater good of the family.

  2. I'd really like to see the third story, just because I have fairly strong personal opinions about alcohol (for myself, and my intimate family and friends), and I'd just like to see how it's been handled in the past. And I've had a conversation about it before, and it got pretty heated.

  3. Luke I really like the first story idea. Zombies intrigue me and I am interested to see how you could develop the characters within the story. When I think of Zombies I think of Zombieland which has a comical portrayal of the story so I would be cool to read a story which is drama orientated

  4. Luke,
I like all of your story ideas! I think they are all very interesting and original. I really like the first one, because i think it is unique and can be taken in a lot of different directions. I also like the last idea, simply because all of my best friend are guys and sometimes you have to wonder if you would be good together? I think both are interesting story ideas and I would love to read them both!

  5. So I'm going to have to tell you I am not a Zombie fan, so I would have to say I really like your 4th idea. I love stories that have two characters lives intertwined even if they don't realize it. I think you could have so many interesting insights into the two characters, their backgrounds, and their future together. How did they meet? Who did they date throughout their friendship? How did they realize they should be together?
Maybe I'm just corny and like love stories, but I think this is your best idea and I would love to read this story.

However, whatever you choose I am sure will be great! Good luck!

  6. the first one. hands down. i love anything having to do with zombies. of course, if you want to add in an interesting twist, you could do something like the person who makes the sacrifice comes back and kills the family. rather dark, but different
